This is only an idea. Have a plugin or native support in IM (and maybe mail?) clients, allowing you to

  1. Verify the identity of the person you're talking with.
  2. Set up a secure communications channel.

Idea is roughly based on what OTR does, this could improve on it and provide additional security and features.
